Frugal Sunday

My First Frugal Sunday

I'm excited
So...
I started making a long skirt from a couple of stripped tops that I've had for a couple of years just being worn once in a blue moon, because when I saw a picture on "All Free Sewing" of a skirt, I  thought oh yeah I can do that. (Can't find the actual link, but when I do I'll add it.)
Of course I forgot to take pictures from the start (since I'm not use to blogging let alone another tutorial) but am not finished yet so I'll go take some pictures of the cut up parts and what I have done so far then will add to this post once the skirt it totally finished will all the pictures. Cool.:)

I did actually start the skirt on Saturday, but since it won't be completed till Sunday I figured it can be my 1st Frugal Sunday item.

Hope you like my version.

Here are some pictures...

What you see first, are the two stripped tops I picked to make my version of the skirt. They are already cut because I forgot to take a picture of them first.

After I cut each top, I cut the square section into two pieces to alternate them when sewing together...like this.

Then, when all the seams were sewn together, I folded over the top of the skirt, pinned it, and then sewed it down, leaving a little opening so that I could insert the elastic.

Once I inserted the elastic, I overlapped the elastic and sewed it together, then I sewed the opening closed and did a zig zag stitch around the edge to complete my skirt.

Here is my completed version. When I can get someone to take a picture of me wearing it I will add it to this post.

Because the two tops I used were different sizes, one was a large and the other was a medium, the dark blue pieces puff a little but that just gives the skirt a look of it's own.

I figured you could also use just plain coloured large or medium T-shirts and make many different coloured skirts for you, your family and friends. :) even small ones for kids! Cool!

Don't Wait To Create!
